The Loras College Chemistry Olympics is an annual event run by the students of the Loras College Chemistry Club and hosted by Loras College.  The Olympics is a day long event that allows high schools students to come to Loras College and compete in 5 events that test laboratory and content covered in general chemistry.  Winners are awarded trophies and college scholarships.  The day also includes a science building tour, meetings with science professors, hands-on laboratory experiences in our DNA lab and Infrared lab, and a chance for high school students to talk with current college students and college professors.  The goal of the event is to cultivate greater interest in chemistry, inspire future pursuits in science, and help strengthen the ties between Loras College and local high schools.
The Olympic events have included the following: Titration Race, Solution Identification Race, Solution Density Race, Periodic Table Race, and a Trivia event.  The events help students reinforce the skills and concepts taught in general chemistry.  Events require students to balance speed with accuracy as they compete with each other to be the fastest to get the correct answer.
